So What Is… Reiki?

Reiki is a safe, vibrational energy healing practice with its roots in Japanese origin. The word Reiki comes from the Japanese words ‘Rei’, which means ‘Universal life force’, and ‘Ki’, which means energy.
It is a non-invasive natural healing therapy which helps to balance the human energy system and assist the body in repairing itself. Reiki treats the whole person, promoting balance in mind body and soul- creating many beneficial effects and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing.
Reiki is the life force energy that flows through all living things. It is believed that a persons ‘Ki’ or energy should be strong and free flowing. When this is true, a persons body and mind is in a positive state of health. When the energy becomes weak or blocked, we are more likely to get sick, feel stressed and it could lead to symptoms of physical or emotional imbalance.
Reiki works to bring all parts of the body back into balance and harmony on a physical, mental, emotional and spiritual level. It awakens our awareness and our connection to our inner selves and spirit.
Reiki helps us to discover our own self empowerment, and to get in touch with ourselves, our inner core, our truth. It aids us with working on ourselves at a deeper level.
Reiki treatments are gentle and relaxing. It works by channelling the Reiki energy through the practitioner and onto the person receiving the treatment.
All the receiver needs to do is lie back, relax and allow the healing energy of Reiki to flow through your body, as the practitioner gently places their hands in certain positions over the body.
During a treatment different sensations can be experienced and every experience is different for each individual.
Some of the sensations you may experience are; heat or cold, tingling, feelings of energy or warmth moving through the body, heaviness, and some experience visual or sound; so seeing colours, images in their minds eye. Some people may cry, laugh, burp and fart- it’s all just releasing!
Old emotions can surface and some just fall asleep as they go into the deep relaxed meditative state that Reiki brings.
